STEEL DYNAMICS ORDERS DIGITAL PRINTING LINE FROM GLOBUS

Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI) with headquarters in Ft. Wayne, Indiana signed a contract with Globus S.r.l. headquartered in Torino, Italy to supply a new Continuous Digital Printing Coil Line that will be installed at their Butler Flat Roll Division. The Digital Printing Line will be the first one in the world.

SDI currently has three (3) Coil Coating Lines operating in Indiana and Mississippi and one (1) under construction in Texas that pre-paints steel coils in numerous colors for various applications including appliance, construction, transportation and durable goods. The new Digital Printing Line will expand SDI’s capability and markets by being capable of painting an unlimited variety of custom patterns, prints, logos, and designs from a few feet long to over 30 feet. The print will be applied by a 4-color digital printer followed by UV curing. The printed patterns can be repeated or can be changed to another one on the fly without stopping the line. After the printing is cured, a Protective Clear Coat will be applied to protect the print and enhance its durability and life.

The line will process cold rolled and galvanized steel coils with a thickness ranging from 0.25 - 0.76 mm (0.010 - 0.030”) with widths ranging from 813 -1626 mm (32– 64”) and at a maximum line speed of 60 MPM (200 FPM).
